Gilani sends greetings to Manmohan

Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, Jan. 16 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has written a new year greeting letter to his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh and told him that his government has formally informed India about the steps taken in response to the international community's demands in connection with Mumbai attacks.

According to The News, Pakistan's Foreign Secretary Salmna Bashir handed over the letter to Indian high commissioner Satyabrata Pal in a meeting.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, Jan. 15 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's adviser on interior affairs, Rehman Malik, on Thursday said that the Pakistan Government has arrested 124 suspects in connection with the November 26, 2008 terror attacks on Mumbai.

"We have arrested a total of 124 people belonging to banned groups and are committed to working with India on the war on terror," Malik told a press conference in the Pakistan capital.

No agreement with US for drone attacks in Pak tribal areas: Gilani

Karachi, Jan 13: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that the US drone attacks contribute towards nullifying Pakistani efforts to create a wedge between the loyal tribes and militants besides casting a negative impact on plans to bring peace in the border region.

"Pakistan during last year had succeeded in isolating militants because of result-oriented policies of the government but all such measures could not bring the cherished results in the wake of drone attacks that came from across the borders. This situation prompted sympathies for the militants which otherwise were rapidly waning," Gilani said.

Gilani holding consultations on appointment of new Pak NSA

Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, Jan. 12 : Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is reportedly holding consultations with key security and intelligence officials on whom to select as his new national security adviser (NSA), sources said on Monday.

The News quoted the sources as saying that the government is yet to take a final decision on who will replace sacked NSA Major-General (retired) Mahmud Ali Durrani.

The names of Tariq Aziz, former army chief Gen. (retired) Jehangir Karamat, Gen (retired.) Abdul Qayyum and former foreign secretary Riaz Khokhar are being considered for the vacant job.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza GilaniIslamabad, Jan. 9 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Friday that the situation was `fragile' on the border with India, and regretted the suspension of peace talks following the militant attacks in Mumbai in November.

Gilani said that Pakistan's intelligence agency, Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) has given India information about the Mumbai terror attacks, while denying media speculation of a rift between him and the president.
