Gilani sacks three Musharraf appointed envoys

Yousuf Raza Gilani, Pervez MusharrafIslamabad, Feb. 11 : Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has terminated the services of three ambassadors-at-large appointed during the previous Musharraf regime.

The shock announcement severs government ties with Sharifuddin Pirzada, Ahsanullah Khan and Hameed Kidwai.

Officials close to the Prime Minister''s Office told the Dawn, that the sackings reflect the government's resolve to purge the administration of the remnants of Musharraf era.

These officials had served the dictatorship, and therefore it was felt, could not be friends of democracy.

Gilani says Pak’s diplomacy strong enough to ''defeat'' Indian plans

While speaking to the reporters in Qasim Bela, Gilani termed the Indian plans to get Pakistan declared a `terrorist state' as wishful thinking, and said Pakistan's diplomacy and foreign policy would not allow India to succeed, the Daily Times reports.

Islamabad, Feb. 5 : While Pakistan may be ready with its reply to the Indian `dossier' on the Mumbai terror attacks, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has made it clear that the probe into the Mumbai carnage is still being carried on, and more time is needed to arrive at a conclusion.

"We are extremely serious in the investigation of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, and are `gradually' moving in the right direction, but we need time," The Daily Times quoted Gilani, as saying.

Commenting on Pakistan's commitment to thwart terrorism from its soil he said: "Pakistan has taken all necessary steps to counter the rising militancy in the tribal areas along the northern Pakistan-Afghanistan border."

Gilani rules out IAEA access to A.Q. Khan

Yousuf Raza GillaniIslamabad, Jan. 17 : Pakistan Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that there is no question of giving the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) access to the disgraced nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Gilani said that the network of Khan had been demolished, and there was no need of any further information in the matter.

“There is no point of providing any access by the UN nuclear watchdog to Dr. Khan as “his network is broken and there is no need for any other information,” The News quoted Gilani, as saying.
