Holbrooke to arrive in Islamabad on MondayIslamabad, Feb. 8 : United States Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke, will be arriving here on Monday on his maiden visit after being appointed Barack Obama's special envoy to the region.

During his four day mission, Holbrooke is expected to meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani and other top leaders.

Holbrooke's visit is being considered important as it might influence a change in Washington's strategies with regard to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Pakistan's Foreign Office sources said that it would be Holbrook's first formal visit to Pakistan after his appointment.

Holbrook is likely to discuss core issues regarding war against terrorism, Pak-Afghan border situation and about the peace situation in the northern areas of Pakistan during his visit with leadership here, the Online quoted sources, as saying.

State department spokesman Robert Woods told the daily briefing that he "spoke to Ambassador Holbrooke, and he said he was going to try to get out as soon as he could, but he didn't have a timeframe on that," The News reported.
