Gulbarga (Karnataka), Jan. 7 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on Wednesday said there is need to have policies that promote inclusive growth.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating Buddha Vihar on the outskirts of Gulbarga in Karnataka, Patil said continuous efforts should be made for the betterment of people belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections of society.
Patil said the focus must be on poverty alleviation, removal of illiteracy and promotion of better health in society, especially amongst the downtrodden.

In an address delivered here on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, Patil said: "The Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society has traveled this distance with great commitment and devotion to academic values. There is a Sanskrit shloka: which means, `Knowledge is the only power''.This should be our inspiration in this century of "knowledge power".
Hyderabad, Dec 30 : President Pratibha Patil today said that food security can be achieved only through rapid agricultural growth and multi-dimensional rural development.
Delivering the Golden Jubilee Lecture at the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) here, the President emphasized the need for optimum utilization of land and irrigation to ensure food security.
She said that farmers can be made aware and encouraged to adopt improved agricultural practices to enhance productivity. Implements and methodologies should be such so as to reduce the drudgery and hard labour of farming operations.
Hyderabad, Dec 27 : President Pratibha Patil is arriving here on her 15-day southern sojourn.
She will stay in the Rastrapathi Nilayam at Bollaram near Secundrabad from where the president''s office functions till her departure to Delhi on January 11.
During her visit, Patil will attend various programmes organised by the State Government and the Ministry of Defence.
She is scheduled to take part in the golden jubilee celebrations of National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) here on December 30.
