Blame game over Dr Haneef “terrorism case” breaks out Down Under

Mohamed HaneefSydney, Oct 24 : The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have reportedly passed the obligation of charging Dr Mohamed Haneef with terrorism on to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP).

In a submission to the Clarke inquiry into the case, the AFP said that while the decision to charge Dr Haneef ultimately rested with it, the CDPP’s legal advice was “a fundamental factor” in the decision-making process to charge Dr Haneef.

Aussie Police had found “jihadist” materials in Dr Haneef’s flat after arrest

Sydney, Oct 23: The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have revealed that a search of Dr Mohamed Haneef''s apartment shortly after he was arrested from Sydney last year had found some “jihadist” materials, including a brochure from a proscribed terror organisation and an inflammatory lecture by an al-Qa''ida-linked preacher.

The revelations are contained in the Federal Police''s submission to the Clarke inquiry, which was published on the Internet today, reported news. com. au.

The AFP also revealed that investigators had found a brochure from an organisation the AFP said was "prescribed in a number of countries".

Haneef case: Ex-Oz minister Andrews to be questioned

Melbourne, Oct. 14 : Former Australian Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews will be questioned over the bungled terrorism investigation of Mohamed Haneef.

Dr Haneef, who worked at the Gold Coast Hospital, was arrested in Brisbane in July last year over suspected links to botched terror attacks in Britain.

The case became a hot political issue when Andrews revoked Haneef''s visa just hours after a magistrate granted him bail. The case later collapsed for lack of evidence.

According to the Herald Sun, Andrews is expected to be the last high-profile player to give evidence at the inquiry tomorrow, headed by retired NSW Supreme Court judge John Clarke.

Sydney, Aug 15 : It has been revealed that the secret documents on the basis of which former Australian Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews had blindly relied to cancel Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef''s visa, actually contained no evidence of criminality or involvement in terrorism against the doctor. Instead, it simply established an association between Dr Haneef and his cousins Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed, who were allegedly responsible for the botched terror attacks in London and Glasgow last year.

The Australian Police had refused to publicly disclose the secret dossier, but according to several sources who had seen the document, it contained “no evidence” linking Dr Haneef to the terror attacks or any criminal activities.
