WashingtonJohn McCain and Barack Obama, August 2: A new Web advertisement released by U. S. presidential candidate John McCain's campaign compares his competitor Barack Obama to Charlton Heston's movie character Moses.

The ad seeks to portray what it says is Obama’s smugness and false regal perception with a new comparison — to Charlton Heston’s famous Hollywood version of the biblical character.

It begins with narrator’s voice referring to Obama as “The One”, the nickname McCain aides are using for their opponent and the aura around him.

US presidential candidate Barack ObamaWashington - US presidential candidate Barack Obama on Friday voiced willingness to compromise on offshore US oil drilling as part of "comprehensive" energy legislation.

In what was quickly seen as a significant reversal, Obama told Florida's Palm Beach Post newspaper in an interview that he was open to offshore drilling if it would break a logjam on energy legislation in Congress.

"My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama said.

Washington, July 30, : Illinois Senator Barack Obama has voiced his support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and democracy, in meetings with Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Gilani said “Pakistan does not require assurance of its sovereignty from the United States, but we ‘should be happy in case such assurances were offered’.”

Obama, the Democratic candidate running for the US Presidential post, met Gilani at the latter’s hotel.

According to the Daily Times, Obama told Gilani during the meeting that the “only way we’re going to be successful in the long term in defeating extremists is if we are giving the people opportunities.”
