Kolkata, April 5 : Backing BJP leader Narendra Modi as a potential prime minister, yoga guru Ramdev Friday described the Gujarat chief minister as a symbol of development and good governance and asked people to support him.
"Modi is a symbol of development and good governance and people have a lot of expectations from him. He is a good leader and the people should support such a leader," Ramdev said on the sidelines of a programme here.
Trusts run by yoga guru Ramdev have been slapped with a hefty fine of Rs 5 crore for allegedly evading service tax.
The revenue department has claimed that the yoga camps organized by Ramdev's Divya Yoga Trust and Patanjali Yoga Peeth are commercial activities, for which no services taxes were paid.
A senior finance ministry official said, "The directorate general of central excise intelligence has sent notices for alleged service tax evasion to the tune of Rs 5.14 crore."
The food safety investigators have found that some of the products sold by the trust headed by famed Indian yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, were not adequate as per the set standards.
Officials of the Food Safety and Standards Department had collected samples from of six food products during a surprise raid at his Kankhal-based unit in august this year. The samples were sent to testing facilities in Rudrapur and the tests revealed that the products had failed the tests.
Congress feels that it is better to not give any importance to Baba Ramdev or Team Anna. However, the leadership in Congress is forgetting that common man in India is suffering and he wants the change in the system.
Baba Ramdev’s agitation against black money has managed to get stronger and bigger compared to last year. The campaign looks better managed compared to previous year, when Delhi Police was successful in taking Baba Ramdev out of New Delhi quite easily.
The police has detained Baba Ramdev and over 300 supporters in nearly 50 DTC buses, however, the group has taken shape of big mob of supporters and is moving very slowly. Baba Ramdev has asked the supporters of the campaign to remain calm and to not break the law.
Baba Ramdev has given ultimatum to UPA government to agree to his three demands. He further warned the UPA government of revolution in case the government remains mum on the issues of corruption and black money.
I support Anna Hazare and his team and Baba Ramdev as they are trying to bring focus on serious issues like black money, corruption and Lokpal Bill. However, I have a personal opinion to share with these people and their supporters.
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s trusts have been sent notices to pay around Rs 58 crore in taxes over earnings from the sale of their ayurvedic medications.
The tax exemption to trusts controlled by Ramdev, who had defended the cause of black money in 2011, has apparently been cancelled.
As per reports, the Haridwar-based Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust, Divya Yoga Mandir Trust and Bharat Swabhiman Trust had made around 120 crore profit from “commercial actions” in the assessment year 2009-10.
New Delhi, Sep 26 : Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's supporter Rajbala, who was injured in the pre-dawn police action in Ramlila Maidan on June 5, succumbed to her injuries this morning at the G. B. Pant Hospital.
Fifty-one-year-old Rajbala was seriously injured during Delhi police clampdown on Baba Ramdev's agitation against the black money issue at Ramlila Ground in June.
Haridwar, Sep 2 : Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev has denied receiving a notice from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) with regard to violation of country''s foreign exchange rules.
He told that his trusts-- Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust and the Divya Yoga Mandir Trust had not indulged in any illegal or unconstitutional acts.
Showing his respectfulness for Baba Ramdev, BJP president Nitin Gadkari sought not to comment after the Yoga guru floated a political group.
Gadkari said that each and every person has a right to create his own political party in the democratic system.
Baba Ramdev is a great personality who has spread benefits of Yoga across the world.
Nitin Gadkari, who is in Goa for the first time after accepting as party's chief, stated that that he respects Baba and his strong opinions.

Mathura, Nov. 7 : Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday slammed Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for stating that migrant labourers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh would not be welcomed to work in his state.
"The Constitution of India has given right to every citizen of the country to migrate and work fearlessly in any part of country. Anything that is against the Constitution be it fatwa, or anything else is not justified. Every citizen belonging to any religion or language has right to migrate to the entire country. Narrow-mindedness on this issue is not appropriate," Ramdev told reporters in Mathura.

New Delhi, Aug 12 : Amidst growing concern on the increasing spread of the H1N1 virus in India, renowned yoga guru Baba Ramdev prescribed yoga as a cure for the disease.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, Baba Ramdev advised people to practice yoga as a preventive measure against swine flu.
"People with strong immune system cannot be affected with swine flu. Through yoga and pranayma, you can keep your immune system particularly the respiratory system strong," he added.
He further said that the media was creating panic among the people.

New Delhi, Feb 14 : Indian Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday came out openly against on-screen smoking and said it was wrong to support promotion of drugs in any form.
"I am not criticizing the Judiciary, but it was wrong to support the promotion of drugs in any form," Ramdev said.
Known for his traditional remedies, Baba Ramdev said, "The law was in favour of the masses but unfortunately our court has opted an irresponsible attitude, which was not accepted by many citizens of the country."
