One held for illegal transport of liquor

The state excise department seized two motorbikes altered in order to carry liquor in their fuel tanks and arrested one of the riders, seizing liquor worth Rs1 lakh on Tuesday. According to JB Kabile, excise inspector, flying squad Konkan Region, the arrested accused Jayendra Indrapal Patil, 30, is a resident of Bhiwandi. “We were aware of the illegal liquor transport which was carried out on the Bhiwandi-Thane zone in wee hours of the morning. So we kept a tab on the zone,” said Kabile. On a tip-off, the excise department team confiscated a Honda Activa at around 5 am on Bhiwandi-Vasai road on Tuesday, however, the driver managed to flee. Within two hours, another bike, Bajaj Pulsar, was stopped on Bhiwandi-Thane road and the rider Jayendra Patil was arrested. Liquor worth Rs1 lakh was found from the two bikes. The cops discovered that Patil had made arrangements by which he could store 30 litres of liquor in the fuel tank and 15 litres under the seat.
