Oil companies get Aadhaar card machines

Oil companies get Aadhaar card machinesIn a bid to speed up the process of enrolling LPG customers under the government's flagship Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) scheme, oil marketing companies are being provided with Aadhaar card machines.

State-owned Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) will receive 5 Aadhaar card machines, while Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) will receive 10.

The machine will help the companies complete the process of Aadhaar card enrollments faster. Authorities have declared that those who will fail to get their Aadhaar card numbers seeded into their respective bank accounts would not be able to avail LPG subsidy.

A senior official from BPCL said that Aadhaar card holders should approach banks at the earliest to get their Aadhaar card numbers seeded to their bank accounts so that the government could deposit their subsidy amount into their bank accounts.

He also said that the district administration had suggested setting up of additional Aadhaar enrollment centers solely for LPG customers.

Speaking on the topic, the official added, "The Aadhaar machines given to BPCL distributors will only enroll customers in whose names the connections are and not their family members."

An official from HPCL said that they had that far received no communication regarding deadline for seeding of Aadhaar card numbers into LPG consumers' bank accounts, but it might soon be announced.

Once the scheme become operational, consumers will have to buy LPG cylinders at market rate (currently around Rs 950/cylinder) while the government will transfer the subsidy amount directly to their bank accounts.
