Washington, Jan 10 : The father of the woman, whose rape and fatal beating provoked outrage across India and the world, has asserted that his daughter's brutal death has brought an awakening of society.

The woman's father told the British television network ITV, that society can no longer turn a blind eye to these sorts of incidents, which are happening every day, CNN reported.

He also said that people have to change themselves, and if there are no changes, then these horrible things won't stop.

Washington, January 10 : In the fight against childhood obesity, video games are often seen as the enemy.

But a new study by researchers at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS) suggests that certain blood-pumping video games can actually boost energy expenditures among inner city children, who tend to be at the highest risk for becoming overweight.

"A lot of people say screen time is a big factor in the rising tide of childhood obesity," says lead author Todd Miller, PhD, an associate professor in the Department of Exercise Science at SPHHS.

According to the latest data released, the total building approvals rose 2.9 per cent nationally in November mainly due to a strong rise in the state of Victoria.

The data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the approvals rose in Victoria but it fell in all other states in the country during November. Victoria recorded an increase of 8.7 per cent in approvals backed by growth of multi-unit dwellings. The rise in Victoria was able to offset the fall in all other states in Australia during the month.

Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh has released the 'Science, Technology and Innovation Policy 2013' at the Indian Science Congress.

The policy says that the scientific research utilises money to generate knowledge in the country. The document prepared by the science bureaucrats says that its objective is to make research field more inclusive. It says that the Indian society is its major stakeholder.

A court in Delhi has fixed February 4 for framing charges against Suresh Kalmadi, for cheating and conspiring in matters relating to the CWG.

The sacked CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi believed to have caused a loss of Rs 90 crore in games related corruption. Special CBI Judge Ravinder Kaur said that more time is needed to review the details of the whole case before charges are framed.

Indian automotive major, Mahindra & Mahindra has said that it is planning to invest about $900 million during the coming four to five years its SsangYong Motor unit.

The company is looking to develop three new vehicles and six engines at its unit in South Korea. Pawan Goenka, President for Automotive & Farm Equipment sectors, M&M said that the funds for the investment will come from internal accruals, fresh equity and debt.
