Delhi court to frame charges against Suresh Kalmadi
A court in Delhi has fixed February 4 for framing charges against Suresh Kalmadi, for cheating and conspiring in matters relating to the CWG.
The sacked CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi believed to have caused a loss of Rs 90 crore in games related corruption. Special CBI Judge Ravinder Kaur said that more time is needed to review the details of the whole case before charges are framed.
The Court had recently ordered that charges of forgery, cheating and conspiracy must be framed against Suresh Kalmadi and some other officials. Special CBI judge Talwant Singh has ordered framing of charges against Kalmadi, former OC secretary general Lalit Bhanot and nine other officials for awarding a Games related contract to Swiss firm, Swiss Timing Omega. The contract caused huge losses to the government.
The court said in the ruling that charges of cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy and for offences under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act should be made against eight persons as well as three companies involved in the graft case.
The special judge had taken over the court on 2 January, 2013 after the earlier judge, who had ordered the framing of charges, was transferred.
