Cape Town, Aug 23 : South Africa's former president Nelson Mandela remained in a critical but stable condition, the country's presidency said Friday.

Nothing had changed from the last update on Mandela's condition issued Aug 11, Xinhua quoted presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj as saying.

In the last update, Maharaj quoted Mandela's medical team as saying that Mandela's health was improving steadily, but he still remained in a critical condition.

Mandela was rushed to a hospital in Pretoria for a recurring lung infection June 8. Friday was his 77th day in hospital.

Washington, Aug 23 : The deadly Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus has been found in an insect-eating bat in Saudi Arabia, researchers from the United States and Saudi Arabia said.

The discovery, described in the journal 'Emerging Infectious Diseases', points to a likely animal origin for the disease but an intermediary animal is likely also involved, researchers from the Columbia University, EcoHealth Alliance, and the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia said, Xinhua reported.

The foreign direct investment (FDI) cap in news channels and FM radios should be hiked from current 26 per cent to 49 per cent, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed.

The telecom regulator also recommended that the FDI limit in broadcast carriage services like cable TV, direct-to-home (DTH), mobile TV, Teleport and HITS should be raised from current limit of 74 per cent to 100 per cent.

Washington, Aug 23 : Indians have emerged as the third-largest immigrant group in the US behind Mexicans and the Chinese with their number touching nearly 1.9 million in 2011, according to a US think tank.

The share of Indian immigrants among all foreign born in the US has grown to almost 5 percent of the country's 40.4 million immigrants in 2011, noted an article published in the Migration Policy Institute's online journal, the Migration Information Source.
