RInfra to recover past arrears worth Rs.5,550 crore

Reliance-InfrastructureMumbai, Aug 23 : Integrated infrastructure and power company Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) Friday said the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has allowed it to recover arrears and carrying costs aggregating to Rs. 5,550 crore over the next six years.

According to the company, the MERC order dated Aug 22, 2013, allows it to recover past arrears, along with 14.5 percent per annum of carrying cost which comes to about Rs. 925 crore per year, aggregating to Rs. 5,550 crore over the next six years.

Foreign tourists, earnings increasing: ChiranjeeviNew Delhi, Aug 23 : The arrival of foreign tourists in the country as well as the foreign exchange earnings are on the rise, Tourism Minister K. Chiranjeevi informed parliament Friday.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Chiranjeevi said foreign tourist arrivals (FTA) grew from 57,75,692 in 2010 to 63,09,222 in 2011 and in 2012 the figure was 65,77,745. A total of 38,31,715 tourists visited India between January and July this year.

According to the minister, the foreign exchange earnings (FEE) from tourism are rising as well.

India against accessing internet communication content: Sibal

Kapil-SibalNew Delhi, Aug 23 : The Indian government was opposed to anyone accessing content of internet communications emanating from the country, Communications and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal told parliament Friday.

He also assured members that steps had been taken to protect communications sent by missions abroad.

Responding to concern of Rajya Sabha members over reports of access by US agencies to internet communications emanating from India, Sibal said the issue had been "very seriously" raised by the government.

"India's experience will help, we are depending much on India's experience," visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Kamil al-Maliki said here.

"Iraq is in the process of rebuilding its democratic system," he added.
