Mumbai, Sep 3 : German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW Tuesday launched its entry-level BMW 1-Series hatchback with petrol and diesel variants priced between Rs. 20.90 lakh and Rs. 29.90 lakh.

The entry-level car was unveiled by cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and race car driver Armaan Ebrahim here.

"The breathtaking agility and sophisticated functionality make it the perfect car for people who are passionate about driving and want to make their mark," said Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India.

New Delhi, Sep 3 : Raghuram Govind Rajan, chief economic advisor in the finance ministry, is scheduled to take over as governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Wednesday.

At 50, Rajan will be among the youngest to occupy the high office at Mint Street in Mumbai, where he takes over from incumbent Duvvuri Subbarao.

Rajan, who joined the finance ministry last year in August, brings with him wide experience as a banker, academician and technocrat, having served institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and taught at the University of Chicago.

Chennai, Sep 3 : Sixty-seven passengers of Chennai-Tuticorin Spicejet flight had a narrow escape Tuesday morning at the Tuticorin airport after one of the plane's engines caught fire, said an airport official.

"We noticed smoke from one of the engines. The Bombardier aircraft had landed and was at the parking bay. Immediately, the main fire tender was pressed into service and the fire was contained with water and foam," the official told IANS over phone from Tuticorin, around 650 km from here.

New Delhi, Sep 3 : Passenger car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Tuesday launched its premium entry-level hatchback Grand i10 in petrol and diesel variants with a launch price of Rs. 4.29 lakh onwards.

"The Grand is particularly designed keeping in mind the needs of the Indian customers. The new vehicle comes with some of the most advanced features in this segment," Nalin Kapoor, senior general manager and group head marketing, Hyundai Motor India, told IANS.

"The Grand compliments our existing product portfolio and is smartly placed between i10 and i20, a segment where we had no presence till now," he said.

Amritsar, Sep 3 : Sukhbir Singh Badal was Tuesday re-elected as the president of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal.

Sukhbir, 51, who is Punjab's deputy chief minister, was unanimously re-elected by 445 delegates of the Akali Dal who had assembled here at the Teja Singh Samundri hall at the Golden Temple complex of this Sikh holy city, 250 km from Chandigarh.
