Allergy is a major factor in asthma: Study

Washington, Sept 28: According to a study by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has found further evidence to support the theory that allergy is a major factor in asthma.

The study was conducted by researchers led by Darryl C. Zeldin, M.D., a senior investigator at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and Peter Gergen, M.D., M.P.H, of NIAID’s Division of Allergy, Immunology and Transplantation.

Ganguly missed being part of Twenty20 World Cup

Bangalore, Sept. 28 : Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said that he missed being part of the Twenty20 World Cup.

“If India wins, you miss being part of the team. Yes, I missed being part of the Twenty20 World Cup,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly, who had a word of appreciation for Dhoni's captaincy, said the Australians were good, but Indian bowlers were also doing well.

When asked about Twenty20 cricket, he said, “One has to get adjusted to the three formats being played.”

ESO’s VLT provides clues about the shaping of planetary nebulae

Munich, Sept 28 : The European Southern Observatory’s (ESO’s) Very Large Telescope (VLT) Interferometer has helped astronomers discover a reservoir of dust trapped in a disc that surrounds an elderly star.

Scientists say the discovery provides additional clues about the shaping of planetary nebulae.

In the last phases of their life, stars such as our Sun evolve from a red giant, which would engulf the orbit of Mars to a white dwarf, an object that is barely larger than the Earth.

Diana inquest jurors to get armed security

London, Sept 28 : Jurors probing into the death of Princess Diana are to get unprecedented security to prevent them from being ‘hassled or harassed’.

The hearing that is expected to last at least for the next six months began at the High Court on Sept 27.

The Metropolitan Police's jury protection team will take the responsibility of transporting the jurors between home and court during the probe.

London, Sept 28 : Plastic surgeons are warning British men and women not to fall for “miracle” anti-wrinkle treatments in the country, for some of the products being offered are from companies that have been refused licences elsewhere.

Surgeons warn that a lack of regulations over non-surgical procedures means that women are being used as ‘guinea pigs’ to test unproven cosmetic treatments.
