Advertising Increases the Urge to Smoke Traditional Cigarette: Study

Researchers from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania said that advertisements can have huge impact on the lives of people. Ads can increase the urge to engage in smoking.

The researchers affirmed that after seeing vaping ads, former smokers felt an increased desire to smoke after seeing the ad for the same. In the study, the researchers evaluated the urge to smoke of 301 daily smokers, 272 intermittent smokers and 311 former smokers.

The smokers were asked to watch electronic cigarette commercials that showed someone vaping and some do not. After seeing the ads, the participants were evaluated once again for the urge of smoking. The researchers found that after seeing the vaping ads, daily smokers had a greater urge to smoke a normal cigarette.

Screening could cut more than 20,000 Annual Deaths from Colon Cancer

A new study on colon cancer suggested that screening could help in saving thousands of lives every year. According to the study, increasing colorectal cancer (CRC) screening rates to about 80% in next three years could prevent more than 20,000 deaths every year by 2030.

As per the reports, the study is the first to calculate the health benefits of increasing screening rates. The study has been conducted by Ahmedin Jemal, epidemiologist at American Cancer Society, and published in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.

Study Links Loneliness to Premature Deaths

A new study conducted by researchers from the Brigham Young University in Utah revealed that loneliness not only affects a person mentally but it can even lead to early death among individuals.

The study’s findings showed that people who are always alone die at a younger age. Researchers for the study analyzed data of 35 years. The researchers for the study examined nearly 3 million participants for their study.

Researchers after the analysis of the data concluded that loneliness can cause physical as well as mental damage to a particular person.

As per researchers, result of the study was controlled of veracious factors that might affect the study result such as age, socioeconomic status, gender and current illness.

FDA warns about Likelihood of More Victims from Deadly Blue Bell Ice Cream

A warning about more victims has been issued by the US Food and Drug Administration over the Blue Bell ice cream brand Scoops being contaminated with the deadly Listeria virus that claimed three lives in Kansas over the weekend. The outbreak linked to Scoops lasted from January 2014 to January 2015, but the FDA has raised concerns over high chances of more victims in case of consumption of contaminated products kept in home freezers.

According to the FDA, five Kansans were infected by the deadly pathogen during their stay at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita. They all were receiving treatments for unrelated conditions. The mortality rate of the pathogen is nearly 20%.

Energy Drink consumption increases blood pressure and risk of cardiac events: Study

A new research has revealed that energy drink consumption causes rise in blood pressure and increases the risk of cardiovascular problems.

According to lead author Anna Svatikova, a cardiovascular diseases fellow at the Mayo Clinic, the risk of cardiac events is greater among those who are not used to caffeinated drinks.

The researchers conducted the study by giving a can of a commercially available energy drink or a placebo drink to 25 healthy young adults between the ages of 19 to 40. They recorded blood pressure and heart rate before and 30 minutes after energy drink/placebo drink consumption.

Chili sauce challenge led to diagnosis of brain tumor in Illinois man

A chili sauce challenge saved life of a resident of Orland Park in Illinois. He discovered that there was a malignant tumor in his brain after he took part in the chili sauce challenge. Randy Schmitz, 30, told ABC News how all this happened. Schmitz was enjoying his holiday in South Carolina. His family was also there with him. While enjoying the view of Myrtle Beach, they found that a chili sauce challenge was being conducted by one of the sauce stores over there.
