In order to combat invasive species in Michigan, the federal government has allocated more than $2.5 million in Great Lakes Restoration Initiative funds. The Environmental Protection Agency manages the program.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is taking measures to combat invasive species in the Great Lakes basin. Therefore, it has announced award of 15 Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) grants totaling over $8 million.

In an interview with an Ohio television station, a man accused of plotting an attack at the United States Capitol said that he wanted to shoot the President of the United States Barack Obama. According to the man, Christopher Lee Cornell, if he had not been arrested, he would have gone to Washington to shoot the President.

Cornell was called into WXIX-TV from a Kentucky jail. The man has confessed that he is a supporter of the Islamic State terror group. The man also said that he had planned to kill some government officials as part of revenge for United States strikes on ISIS.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report to show that listening to loud music causes damaging effects to ears. The report has warned that more than a billion teens and young adults are at risk of losing their hearing ability because of listening to too loud music or noise not only from headphones but also from bars, nightclubs and concerts.

A series of studies conducted by researchers from the New York University revealed that common chemicals that affect human hormones can cost more than €150bn ($165.4bn; £108.5bn) a year in damage to human health in Europe.

A team led by New York University presented their data at the annual meeting of the Endocrinology Society.

The data suggested higher economic impact of chemicals in pesticides, plastics and flame retardants. However, experts said the findings need some more detailed research.

A new report from development organization WaterAid has revealed that more than 800,000 women die every year due to lack of clean water and safe toilets.

According to the report, the diseases spread through dirty water and poor sanitation are the fifth biggest killer of women worldwide after heart disease, stroke, lower respiratory infections and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The report claims that dirty water kills more than AIDS and breast cancer. The researchers came to this conclusion by analyzing data from the Seattle-based Institute of Health Metrics research center.
