115 prairie dogs seized from Castle Rock to be relocated in Sedalia

A new home for dozens prairie dogs has been donated by property owner in Sedalia. The dogs were trapped at the Promenade at Castle Rock construction site near Interstate 25 and Meadows Parkway, a controversial shopping mall development site.

Protests heightened after a re-location plan for the animals fell through earlier this week. Two Castle Rock women had been caring and feeding temporarily the prairie dogs on behalf of a contractor who was working to relocate them to New Mexico when they were seized.

Yearlong Exhibit in Flagstaff to Celebrate Pluto

You can now see a Pluto roll in the menu of a sushi restaurant in downtown Flagstaff. The aim behind a yearlong ‘Years of Pluto’ exhibit is to celebrate the brilliant work of the amateur astronomer in the city who made it possible to discover the now-dwarf planet in 1930.

Clyde Tombaugh from Lowell Observatory spotted Pluto in Flagstaff, which is why the small planet has taken on new prominence there.

NASA's New Horizon's spacecraft is all set to complete a nine-year journey to the unexplored world in July. The spacecraft will beam new images to earth, which will be showed at the observatory.

Local artist Paula Rice said the whole city of Flagstaff has a relation with science. People in Flagstaff live at 7,000 feet in altitude, so the night sky is their ocean, said Rice.

Researchers discover new species of Lizards

According to reports, three new species of lizards have been discovered in Andes Mountains of South America. The lizards have been dubbed ‘dwarf dragons’. The new discovered species are of wood lizards and called Enyalioides anisolepis, Enyalioides sophiarothschildae and Enyalioides altotambo.

While revealing the discovery of the new species of lizards, the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund said that the location where the new lizards were discovered was the epicenter of biodiversity of the area. The region has about 20,000 plants that are not present anywhere else. In the area, researchers have discovered approximately 1,500 terrestrial vertebrates.

Gibbons whisper to communicate information secretly

It has been found that apes also whisper like humans in order to give information secretly to others. It has been observed that gibbons do this often to communicate.

The apes make different types of soft calls, called 'hoos', and these are almost inaudible to the humans. This indicates that the quiet calls are used to alert other gibbons in close proximity without alerting others. Scientists studying lar gibbons also found that a different whisper call was used by them, when a tiger or leopard was present in the surrounding area.

According to Dr Esther Clarke, who led the research at the University of Durham, the findings could also assist in providing valuable hints regarding human speech. Clarke added that this could also help know why humans started using whispers.

Scientists use Google Maps technology to study human body

According to The Washington Post, the technology which drives Google Maps is now being employed for studying the human body in extreme close-ups. Stanford and Brown University researchers have associated with the University of New South Wales and they have started making use of Google Maps algorithms in an attempt to create layered images of the human body, which can be zoomed in as close as nanometers.

The technology will help scientists get extreme close views of internal organs, bones and cells. It is presently used to find out the association between the development of osteoporosis and a cell's behavior.

Aliens could weigh more than 300 kilograms: Expert

Aliens have always been a topic of excitement and mystery. Now, a cosmologist in Spain said that if they exist, they could be much bigger compared to humans and could weigh more than 300 kilograms. According to Fergus Simpson, a scientist at the University of Barcelona, the average weight of aliens could be beyond 300 kilograms.

This has been estimated by the expert on basis of a mathematical model, according to which, organisms on other planets comply with the laws of conservation of energy, which are observed on Earth.

It implies that larger animals require more resources and use more energy, and as a result they are less abundant. For example, small ants exist in large numbers, whereas whales or elephants are not that abundant.
