New York's attorney general Files Lawsuits against Two Salon Chains

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is filing a case against Total Tan. It has accused the company of ‘unlawfully concealing indoor tanning risks’.

On the other hand, Total Tan has filed a complaint against Schneiderman’s office. In the complaint, Total Tan has accused the officials of using an investigator whose husband was earlier for the tanning firm.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has also filed a lawsuit against Planet Fitness, which operates 101 gyms with tanning services in New York State. Schneiderman has accused Total Tan of false advertising by ‘denying or minimizing scientific evidence linking tanning to an increased cancer risk’.

Doberman eats almost every part of 3 Watches

This Boston area Doberman ate three watches. Last Thursday, Jeff Courcelle came home and found that Mocha, 5, was revolving around a pile of screws, metal pieces, three watch heads and some chewed leather straps.

Courcelle called his wife, Michele Parkinson, and told her that he is concerned what Mocha has done. It was then found that the 80-pound Doberman has pulled down a basket of wrist watches from the couple’s bedroom and ate almost everything of the watches.

The couple concerned about their dog’s health took Mocha to the MSPCA's Angell Animal Medical Center, a 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital. The doctor there performed a 3-hour endoscopy procedure to find out the contents in Mocha’s belly.

18% Americans engage in Binge Drinking: Study

An American Journal of Public Health published study unveiled that 18% of Americans are considered binge drinking. But for La Crosse County, the average is 24% adults saying they were binge drinkers.

As per the Centers for Disease Control, binge drinking is having five more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women in a single outing. The study has found in the La Crosse County, more than $75.5 million dollars in productivity has been lost owing to excessive alcohol use in 2013.

20 Cases of Botulism Confirmed among People who Attended Lancaster church potluck

Ohio Department of Health said 20 cases of botulism have been confirmed among people who attended a Lancaster church potluck at the Cross Pointe Free Will Baptist Church on Sunday.

Ohio Department of Health spokeswoman Michelle LoParo said preliminary tests were carried out in which six food samples from the potluck have been tested positive for botulism. Among the 20 cases, Kim Shaw, 55, of Rushville, died on Tuesday.

Shaw’s death certificate has been filed in Fairfield County, but reason of the death is written pending. The foods that have been tested positive for botulism include three samples of potato salad, one sample of potato salad with egg, one sample of spaghetti pasta salad and one sample of macaroni and cheese.

Excess Sugar and Carbohydrates are not the major reasons behind Obesity, Say Researchers

Health experts recently claimed that excess sugar and carbohydrates are not the only reasons behind the surge in obesity. Three authors of the editorial published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine said that poor diet now generates more disease than physical inactivity, alcohol and smoking combined.

The trio while elaborating on the issue pointed out that while obesity has increased tremendously in past 30 years, there has been very less change in physical activity a level of people.

The three argued on the myth that exercise is not the key to weight loss and to health, and called it erroneous and pervasive.

Hawaiian Lawmakers’ New Bill raises Legal Smoking Age to 21

Lawmakers in Hawaii on Friday passed a bill that has raised the legal smoking age across the state to 21. Passing of this bill made Hawaii the first state in the United States to make such implications regarding smoking.

The bill passed the state Senate by a vote of 19-4 after clearing the house last week. The bill will also put a ban on the sale, purchase or use of electronic cigarettes to all those who fall under the age of 21.

Democratic state Senator Rosalyn Baker said, “The activities we've engaged in over the years to manage smoking, our additional efforts in education, the raising of cigarette taxes, and this is a continuation of those policies”.
