Washington, June 17 : Same-sex behaviour can be found in almost all species in the animal kingdom - from worms to birds - making the practice nearly universal among animals, according to a new review of existing research.

"It''s clear that same-sex sexual behaviour extends far beyond the well-known examples that dominate both the scientific and popular literature: for example, bonobos, dolphins, penguins and fruit flies," said Nathan Bailey, the first author of the review paper and a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biology at UC Riverside.

The subject of the research was a common species of fish which is found across Europe including the UK, called the nine-spined stickleback, which could be the first animal shown to exhibit an important human social learning strategy.

New York, June 17 : Actress Mia Farrow's brother has been found dead in his art gallery in the US, in what cops are describing as "suspicious" circumstances.

Patrick Farrow, 66, a sculptor, was found by police responding to an emergency call from someone at his gallery on Monday evening.

He was discovered by his wife about 11:30 p. m. Monday, police said. Susan Farrow, also an artist, made the frantic 911 call, reports The New York Daily News.

Washington, June 17 : Inducing hibernation among rats using an opioid drug has been found to reduce the damage caused by an artificial stroke in the animals, say US researchers.

Writing about their findings in the open access journal BMC Biology, researchers at the Florida-based University of South Florida Center for Aging and Brain Repair have revealed that the animals put into the chemical fugue suffered less behavioural dysfunctions after a period of cerebral artery blockage than control rats.
