Male Orca flings seal into air

A stunning video shows how a male killer whale named T69C launched a harbor seal around 80 feet high into the air with just a flick of its tail. Experts said orca punting is rare. Generally, when orcas hit their prey, they do not eat them.

Video was captured by Mike Walker who was shooting for Eagle Wing Tours. He caught the footage on October 25 off the coast of Victoria, Canada. Brett Soberg, head of Eagle Wing, shared that they have captured many whale watching, but this one was quite different and rare.

Brett affirmed that it is the fourth time that he has seen an orca doing like this in around two decades. As per the information on the YouTube blurb, the orca called T69C was born in 1995 and is the only male member in its group.

World’s 1st sonic tractor beam created

Researchers from the Universities of Bristol and Sussex in the UK have created the world's first sonic tractor beam. This tractor beam has the ability to pull, push and rotate objects that levitate in thin air. The researchers said that the technique can adapted for other uses as well.

In science fiction, a tractor beam is an invisible ray, which is used to hold and pull things in outer space. Scientists were quite interested in turning the idea of a tractor into reality. Study's lead researcher Asier Marzo said, "It was an incredible experience the first time we saw the object held in place by the tractor beam . All my hard work has paid off, it's brilliant".

Astronomers find group of young stars near Milky Way galaxy’s center

Using data collected by the European Southern Observatory's VISTA telescope between 2010 and 2014, a team of astronomers has found a disk of quite young stars hidden among old stars near the center of the Milky Way galaxy. It is surprising for astronomers as the region is considered to be dominated by mature population.

Astronomers said that they have not seen the complete group of young stars directly. They have come to know about their presence through the detection of a group of very bright and rare stars known as Cepheids.

As per astronomers, they have found 655 Cephids, which 'expand and contract periodically, taking anything from a few days to months to complete a cycle and changing significantly in brightness as they do so'.

Study reveals Electric Eel bends its Body to Double its Shock Value

A new study by a professor from the Vanderbilt University in Tennessee has shed light on the stunning abilities of electric eels. The remarkable creatures twist their body into a horseshoe-like shape to deliver double the voltage they deliver to prey, according to the study.

In a statement, the university said Catania studied the technique used by Amazon's electric eel to paralyze and catch its prey. Catania spent about three years and found new aspects of the creature's sophisticated attacks, the university added.
