NASA’s Cassini Spacecraft sends Images of Icy Geysers on Saturn's Moon Enceladus

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released new images of Saturn’s moon Enceladus captured by Cassini spacecraft during a daring flyby of the moon. The photos are of the icy geyers on the southern pole of the moon.

In an unprocessed image of the moon’s plumes, glowing geysers can be seen. About the image, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) said it looks like there is snow, but it is not. The image is unprocessed and streaks in the picture are from background stars, JPL added.

Researchers at the University of California-San Francisco and Touro University for their study recruited 43 volunteers between the ages 9 and 18. The participants were put on low-sugar diets.

Of the 43 participants 27 were identified as Latino and 16 as African American, all these were obese and had at least one other metabolic health issue, such as high blood pressure or a marker of fatty liver.

A team of researchers claims that they have found variation in a gene for brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF), which could have an impact on obesity among adults and children.

The study researchers suggest that boosting the protein levels can offer a therapeutic strategy for people with the genetic variation and could also help people deal with obesity.

The team of the study funded by the National Institutes of Health found that this issue is found to be very common among African Americans and Hispanics due to this specific gene variation as compared to Caucasians.

Childhood obesity has found to be more alarming and it has been found that it gets very difficult for obese and overweight children to lose weight at a later stage.

$2.2 billion awarded in 2015 to HIV/AIDS Programs

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced a grant of over $2.2 billion to the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program in 2015. The funding was to ensure people battling with the disease in the US receive the required healthcare, support services and essential medications on time.

Secretary Burwell said in a statement that in the last quarter century, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program has played a very important role in the United States’ public health response to HIV.

“These grants will make a difference for the most vulnerable Americans who lack adequate healthcare coverage or financial resources to pay for treatment”, said Burwell.

The findings of the study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, revealed that married couples recover quicker after undergoing cardiac surgery than divorced people, singles.

They study, led by the University of Pennsylvania researchers involved over 1,500 adults who were above the age of 50 and have undergone heat surgery. Patients were asked about their marital status, i.e. whether they were married, widowed, single, or divorced.
