One of most famous meteor showers peaks this week

Pray for clear skies as the Leonid meteor shower should be at its peak Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. People will be able to see the spectacular show before dawn local time. There are only two requirements for viewing the show, which are clear skies and light pollution in America.

NASA said in a statement that the moon will be supporting observers as waxing-crescent moon will set before midnight. Owing to it, there will be dark skies, acting as best opportunities to view the bright and colorful meteors.

“Dedicated observers with a telescope may wish to watch the Moon's earthlit night side for flashes due to Leonid meteoroid impacts on its night-side hemisphere”, affirmed NASA.

Belly Fat is more dangerous than being obese

In comparison to people being obese or having a pear shaped body, those who have belly fat are at increased of mortality. Study researchers have termed belly fat to be dangerous as it carries visceral fat that is present deep inside abdomen and leads to other health problems.

David L. Katz from Yale University School of Medicine said, “As much as half of the overall population has too much visceral fat, though many don’t know it. That’s because you don’t have to be overweight to have excess visceral fat”.

Samuel Klein, Director of the Center for Human Nutrition at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, has affirmed that fat around the midsection increases the risk of disease like coronary, type-2-diabetes, and some types of cancer.

Red Meat consumption linked to increased risk of colon cancer

For so many years, the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) has suggested that people should limit their intake of red meat to 18 ounces per week and avoid processed meat. Now the World Health Organization (WHO) has come up with a report saying that every two ounces of red meat per day increases risk of colon cancer by 17%.

In the report, a team of 22 scientists from 10 nations have gone through over 800 studies from different countries. In these studies, the team assessed the link between cancer and red or processed meat. Importance was given to those studies that considered red meat and processed meat separately.

Doctors unveil how they treated rare case of XDR-TB

Drug-resistant tuberculosis has become a major concern for doctors worldwide. Experts said that diagnosing it among children has become a tough task. Doctors at Johns Hopkins Children's Center have lately shared how they treated a rare case of drug-resistant TB (XD-TB).

Dr. Sanjay Jain, Hopkins pediatric TB specialist, shared that it was not an easy case even when they were having all the needed resources. Now, the child is healthy and five years old.

The patient returned from a holiday trip to India having a high fever. Tests were done, but no report showed her having TB. When X-rays and CT scans were done, doctors did get some clue as they found a spot on her lung and her lymph nodes were enlarged.

CDC: Record number of smokers in US quit smoking during past 10 years

In an announcement, health officials have said that record number of smokers in the US have quit smoking in the past decade. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention shared happy news that the percentage of the US adults who smoke cigarettes has dropped from 20.9% in 2005 to 16.8% in 2014.

Figures have also revealed that cigarette smoking was significantly lower in 2014 being 16.8% as compared to 17.8% in 2013.

The main reason behind the notable fall in the number of smokers has not been mentioned. But some of the causes include improved insurance coverage for helping smokers who have leave the habit. Other main factor is the implementation of stricter laws, banning more smokers to smoke in more places.
