Chipotle’s Boston Restaurant linked to Norovirus Outbreak Opens for Customers

With a hope to get back on track, restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill announced reopening of its Boston restaurant in Cleveland Circle neighborhood which was linked to illness of over 130 people earlier this month.

Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said the Boston restaurant reopened on Sunday for customers. The restaurant was closed earlier this month when Boston College claimed that 120 of its students fell ill after eating at the Chipotle restaurant. The college said that the students showed symptoms consistent with the company’s norovirus outbreak.

Guinea Declared Free from Ebola, Liberia Still Battling Disease

After claiming about 2,500 lives, Ebola has left Guinea, according to reports, which means Liberia remains the only nation still fighting the deadly disease. Before Guinea, Sierre Leone was declared Ebola-free in November.

The WHO earlier reported that it has not seen any new case of Ebola in last about 42 days, a time period in two incubation cycles for the disease. The organization concerned with international public health declared Guinea as Ebola-free country on Tuesday. The last reported Ebola patient in the country was a kid, WHO said.

Twin Birth-Rate in US seen at Record 33.9 per 1,000 Births in 2014

Twin births in United States has become quite common and recent data released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has shown that the twin birth rate hit an all-time high of 33.9 twins per 1,000 births.

The CDC experts said that although the rate of twin birth has reached a record high but are up only .2 from 2013. In 2013 the twin birth rate was 33.7 twins per 1,000 births.

The trend of twin birth in past few decades has been dramatic, said experts. The twinning rate rose 76% from 1980 to 2009, the report said.

As per the report, this trend has been due to highly improved fertility therapies, such as ovulation-inducing drugs, and assisted reproductive techniques like as in-vitro fertilization.

Caught on camera: Crows making tools to hunt for their prey

Several scientists had earlier seen in the wild crows, similar to human beings, preparing tools for themselves to gather food and at times even to entertain themselves. But for the first time has the act been captured on camera. The scientists, through specially invented crow tailcam, recorded the act in videos to prove their theory. The footage shows New Caledonian crows preparing tools to target their prey in the wild.

UK researchers Jolyon Troscianko and Christian Metz, who have been studying the activities of crows in the wild for years, claim to have earlier seen crows making tools in the wild. But they then could not capture it on camera.

New Horizon Captures Pluto On Video

The New Horizons team working at NASA has launched Pluto’s first official video this week. The New Horizons team utilized the LEISA infrared imaging spectrometer to shoot this video of the planet. Through this new technology, the team managed to provide validation over the existence of water ice on Pluto. The existence of ammonia ice on Charon, which is the largest moon of Pluto, was also confirmed through this technique.

NASA Calls off Next Mars Mission for at Least 26 Months

Space enthusiasts who were eagerly waiting for NASA’s next Mars mission got disappointed when the US space agency broke the news that it will not launch its InSight spacecraft to the Red Planet in March due to a leak in the craft’s primary scientific instrument.

On December 22, NASA said the plan to launch the spacecraft to Mars has been cancelled for some time after scientists found a glitch in a French-built seismometer. Now, it is hoped that InSight will take off about 26 months after the original launch schedule as the Earth-Mars orbital geometry is favorable after every two years and two months.
