BAC on digital mammography is better than standard cardiovascular risk factors

A latest study has shown that breast arterial calcification (BAC) on digital mammography is better than normal cardiovascular risk factors and is as effective as two mainly used risk calculators in identification of women who have coronary artery calcification (CAC).

In an article appeared online on March 24 in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Imaging, the study authors reported that there is strong data showing an association between BAC and coronary artery disease and many studies linking BAC with CAC, but the latest study has become the first to show the strong quantitative relationship between BAC and CAC.

The findings will be presented at the forthcoming American College of Cardiology 2016 Scientific Sessions.

Male preconception intake of caffeine as strongly associated with pregnancy loss as females

A latest study has shown that a pregnant woman's probability of miscarriage could surge when the woman or man consumes over two caffeinated drinks per day in the weeks prior to giving birth to a baby.

Germaine Buck Louis of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, who conducted the study, said that there are some important factors regarding caffeinated beverages intake that are connected to pregnancy loss.

Besides this, the study also said that women who ate multivitamins before conceiving and during early pregnancy have 50% less chances to miscarry a child.

Louis added that their findings have provided helpful information for couples who are looking forward to conceive soon and would like to avoid everything that could prove risky for pregnancy.

The daughter of ex-Cincinnati Bengals player Devon Still recently celebrated one year of being cancer-free. Last year, at the age of 4 Leah Still was diagnosed with stage-4 neuroblastoma. He mentioned that March 25th has marked 365 days of her being in remission. He called it a day on which his daughter got a second chance at life. For one full year, Leah Still was in remission. Leah, now 5, has defeated pediatric cancer.
