Akshay Kumar Proving To Be A Silver Lining Amidst The Dark Clouds
It was mid of August and while many people expected it to be just like any other month it proved to be a Dooms Day for some when nature’s fury upheld its ugly head, rendering millions of people homeless. The magnitude of devastation was beyond one’s comprehension, It was a Natural Calamity, the State of Bihar plunged into the Deluge. With succour coming from all the possible sources for the unfortunate people who’ve been hit by it, it was a welcome note for the people of flood-hit village Kataiya in Supaul district, from the ‘Welcome’ star Akshay Kumar who adopted the same in order to rehabilitate it.
Director Prakash Jha confirmed the news to repoters in Patna about Akshay Kumar adopting the village. The Director, who hails from Bihar has gained fame with his movies like Apaharan and Gangaja, is an active volunteer himself and has set up an organisation called Punarwaas with the help of NGOs Anubhooti and Prayas .He said that many of his Bollywood friends, Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar, Manoj Bajpayi and Shekar Suman has helped him in the relief works.
Apart from adopting the village, Akshay Kumar has donated 2.5 million to Jha for the rehabilitation works and has also promised that he would provide more money if required.
Nitish Mishra, the Disaster Management Minister appreciated Akshay’s benevolent deed and said called him as a ‘Super Hero’.
Its been a month since the Kosi river breached an embankment in upstream Nepal, swamping hundreds of villages and affecting over three million people in Bihar. The disaster which has claimed at least 50 lives, according to official estimates. However the voluntary agencies fear that the toll could be in thousands once the water recedes and bodies are recovered.
With having about 989,000 people being evacuated to safer places and around 350,000 people taking shelter in over 300 relief camps, any contribution is welcome and with Akshay having lend a helping hand in this Herculean task to settle millions of people, is indeed a silver lining amidst the dark clouds.
