US envoy wants Musharraf to give up uniform at the earliest
Lahore, Nov 16: US Consul General in Lahore Bryan Hunt has said that President Pervez Musharraf must take steps to restore full democratic process in the country, hang up his uniform, lift restrictions on political activities and free the media.
Hunt said his meeting with former premier Benazir Bhutto was part of his interaction with opposition leaders to convey US concerns over political developments in Pakistan.
"The US concerns are clear and have already been conveyed to all those who matter, " he said.
"These concerns include Musharraf removing his uniform at the earliest, quickly restoring the Constitution, taking steps to ensure free and fair elections and stopping the arrests of political workers, " Hunt added.
Hunt had gone to the residence of Senator Latif Khosa where Bhutto has been under detention since Monday.
The police deployed around the house first stopped, but relented after seeing the official permission, the Dawn reported.
Bhutto had been put under house arrest hours before she was due to lead and address a rally against a state of emergency.
"She is being placed under house arrest, " a senior government official said. (ANI)
