Girija Prasad Koirala meets Terai-based parties leaders
Kathmandu, July 25 : Nepal’s caretaker Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala met leaders of the Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party (TMLP) and the Sadbhawana Party (SP) at his Baluwatar residence this morning.
According to Nepalnews, Koirala requested the leaders of the two parties to back the new alliance of the Nepali Congress (NC), the United Marxist and Leninist (UML) and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) in its efforts to lead the new Government.
Koirala also said that the conditions put forward by the Maoists have caused a major dent on the politics of consensus.
“The politics of consensus cannot move along with the preconditions laid by the Maoists,” he added.
The meeting appears to be clearly aimed to bring the two Terai based parties into the alliance and isolate the Maoists.
On Thursday, during discussions with the 25 parties represented in the Constituent Assembly (CA), the Maoists had advanced three conditions if they are lead the government.
First the so-called alliance of the Nepali Congress, the CPN (UML) and the MJF, should be broken. Second, a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) should be forged. Third, there should be a guarantee that no one will engage in an exercise to pull down the Government for at least two years till the Constitution is written. (ANI)
