Police hunting missing Polish hiker in New Zealand find body

Wellington  - Searchers looking for a Polish hiker missing in a forest near Wellington for a week found a body on Saturday, police said.

It was not immediately confirmed that it was Jacek Gryzbowski, 28, who had not been seen since he set off for a day-long hike in the Rimutaka Forest Park on June 1.

The body was trapped in a jam of logs and debris in a stream, Radio New Zealand reported.

Searchers using an air force helicopter and experienced volunteer hikers had been looking for the man, who was on a working holiday in New Zealand all week.

Reports said some members of Gryzbowski's family were expected to arrive in Wellington from Poland on Sunday. (dpa)
