Earth is not heading towards mini Ice Age

Results of a recent study claiming that earth is heading towards mini Ice Age have been debunked by climate change deniers. The study suggested that earth will witness same conditions of Little Ice Age that began around 1550 and ended around 1850.

Different opinions ran through the internet about the likely cause behind the repeat of mini ice age, with some citing increased volcanic activity or regional variations in climate, whereas others blaming a low-activity solar cycle.

The amount of solar activity declined during the 17th century. The period, known as the Maunder minimum, causes decline in sunspot over a period of about three decades.

However, researchers say that the beginning of the Little Ice Age took place 100 years prior to the Maunder minimum. Besides, it continued long after solar activity came back to normal.

The Maunder minimum slightly brings down temperatures, i. e. only minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, claimed a 2010 study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters by Georg Feulner and Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

"This temperature decrease is much smaller than the warming expected from anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions by the end of this century", said the authors.

Professor of Space Physics at Lancaster University says that a repeat of the Maunder minimum will bring a tad decline in temperatures that will compensate for human-induced global warming by a very little extent.

The vast majority of climate scientists unanimously believe that a new Little Ice Age is highly unlikely to take place on earth.
