Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee fought for evangelical votes this weekend. The two addressing to a megachurch congregation in Georgia said that God favors United States, but they warned them saying that the nation is running on an unsafe spiritual path.

Huckabee has enjoyed immense support from evangelical. He won eight states in his 2008 White House bid. Huckabee called the Supreme Court’s ruling as ‘radical’ and ‘illegal’.

Talking to hundreds of members of Rock Springs Church in a rural area outside metro Atlanta, Huckabee said, “I want to serve notice that the Supreme Court is just the supreme of court system that is one of three equal branches of government. It is not the supreme branch, and it most certainly is not the supreme being”.

Cruz, the Texas senator said that the five-justice majority ignored the text of the Constitution. The cascade of judicial and public support for same-sex marriage threatens religious liberty in US, he said.

Furthermore he said he hopes that the Supreme Court’s ruling serves as a spark to start fire that could become a raging inferno.

The duos appearance on Sunday at the megachurch located about 50 miles south of downtown Atlanta is part of the early concerted scramble evangelicals who remain an important bloc of the GOP presidential electorate.

Christian conservatives since long have been held considerable influence in Iowa. Now, Georgia and several other Southern states get more frequent visits from presidential candidates.
