July will host a rare celestial moment called the blue moon. Such a celestial moment is not a harvest moon, blood moon or new moon. But as per modern definition, the name blue moon is used for the second of two full moons in a single calendar month.

According to experts, the time between one full moon and the next is close to the length of a calendar month. So the only time one month can have two full moons is when the first full moon happens in the first few days of the month.

Such phenomenon happens every 2-3 years, so these sorts of Blue Moons come about that often, added experts. July's full moons are to occur on Thursday and on the 31st.

It takes nearly 29.5 days for earth's moon to flash as a full moon. And for a Blue Moon to occur, first full moon must be at the beginning of a month, and the Blue Moon comes at the end.

The full moon of July is the moon of high summer. It has many traditional names from folklore and Native Americans.

According to the Old Farmers' Almanac, it is called the Buck Moon, because the buck deer start to grow antlers at this time. It is also known as the Thunder Moon because of the frequent summer thunderstorms.

The idea of a Blue Moon as the second full moon in a month stemmed from the March 1946 issue of Sky and Telescope magazine, which contained an article called 'Once in a Blue Moon' by James Hugh Pruett.
