Two doctors and one nurse beaten up by mob at JJ Hospital
The resident doctors and nursing staff of the government-run JJ hospital were protesting after a colleague was beaten up by relatives of a patient who died yesterday.
They, however, agreed to resume their duties after Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) assured complete protection and security to them.
The joint director of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) NN Ambhore and the dean of JJ hospital, RS Inamdar said, “The Maharashtra government has assured full security to the doctors and paramedical staff (of JJ hospital) by recruiting around 90 more security personnel, in addition to the current 60.”
He said that the hospital wards will be guarded by police personnel for two days but the final decision on the recruitment of extra security will be made this week with the health secretary and DMER director.
The incident took place last week when a patient died at the hospital. Sayed was receiving treatment at the hospital by Dr. Prashant Bhand who was later manhandled by Sayed’s relatives for negligence.
