“I''ll take eight 1-0s every season,” says Ferguson
London, Aug 17 : Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he would be happy with eight 1-0 victories this season if it means that The Red Devils retain the Premier League title.
"When you keep clean sheets it''s always an indication of your determination. I''ll take eight 1-0s every season. They may not be good for the nerves, but that''s what this club is famous for," The Sun quoted Ferguson, as saying.
The Premier League champions had a close game with newly-promoted Birmingham were they managed to get through 1-0 thanks to Wayne Rooney''s 34th-minute goal.
"No one gets an easy ride here, whether it''s supporters, staff, players or myself. We''re always capable of going right to the wire, keeping our supporters on a knife-edge. But, it''s exciting," he added.
Last season United's success was built on a solid defence, where Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic played a crucial role by conceding just 24 goals in 38 league matches.
Ferguson hopes that several players who are injured at the moment will join the team shortly, as United looks for a record 19th championship and fourth in a row.
"Ferdinand will be out for two weeks - the next two or three games I would think. Vidic is training so, hopefully, we''ll have him back for next Saturday at Wigan," Ferguson said.
"We''ve had a hard time with defensive injuries over the last two years but have good replacements who have experience," he added. (ANI)
