1200 people in UP fail to cast vote in first phase
Nathmalpur (Uttar Pradesh), Apr 16 : Violence broke out at St. Joseph school polling station at Uttar Pradesh''s Nathmalpur village today as almost 1200 people could not cast their votes in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections here.
The villagers reportedly protested at the polling station as their names were deleted from the voters list.
They shouted slogans against the authorities. The local police officials were later called to control the situation.
"My voting centre is at St. Joseph. I have my identity letter and voter''s slip with me. Also, my name and photo is there in the voting list. But, there is delete stamp on it (against his name)," said Asir Ahmad, one of the voters.
However, the poll officials have denied any mistake on their part.
"We can''t do anything. We will make people aware of the decision that will be taken by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) city," said Zonal Magistrate, Poll Officer.
Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to go to polls in all the five phases of elections on Apr 16, 22,23, 30, May 7 and 13.
Polling was held in 16 out of the 80 constituencies in the state today. (ANI)
