Poland to strengthen Afghan mission

Poland to strengthen Afghan missionWarsaw  - Poland will add 400 soldiers to its mission in Afghanistan by mid-April, Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government said Tuesday.

Another 200 soldiers will be in Poland ready for deployment to the war-torn nation, a government statement said.

Poland currently has some 1,600 soldiers in Afghanistan, and has said it will keep the NATO mission a priority despite budget cuts that ended missions in Chad, Lebanon and the Golan Heights.

The proposal for more troops will now be sent to President Lech Kaczynski, who is expected to sign the plan. (dpa)
