IPL tribunal bans Asif for one yearMumbai, Jan. 29: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has banned Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Asif for one year on charges of using a banned substance for enhancing performance, here today.

However, the duration of the ban has been back dated to July last year, when Asif was banned from all cricket by the PCB

According to reports, the three-man tribunal consisting of the former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, the former vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Dr. Ravi Bapat and lawyer Shirish Gupte barred the Delhi Daredevil player from playing in the IPL till September 15, 2009.

Asif was charged with taking eye drops containing nandrolone, a banned drug during the inaugural edition of the Twenty20 league last year.

The tainted pacer is already facing a ban from all forms of cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), after he was detained for illegal possession of a banned substance at the Dubai Airport in July 2008. (ANI)
