New Zealand Customs intercepts drugs from Hong Kong
Wellington - New Zealand Customs officers seized drugs worth millions of dollars on the illegal street market when they arrested three travellers from Hong Kong as they flew into Auckland over the weekend, a spokesman said Wednesday.
The three were carrying more than 15 kilograms of Contact NT, a pseudoephedrine-based cold remedy used to make methamphetamines, known as crystal ice or P, a spokesman said.
They were arrested on flights that arrived Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Two other people living in Auckland were arrested in the drug bust, which also seized another 2 kilograms of Contac NT intercepted at the airport's international mail centre.
New Zealand police have declared P their biggest drug problem, blaming it for a wave of violent crimes, including murder. (dpa)
