New Rules demand food manufacturers to submit plans to ensure they maintain their operations clean
In the wake of food-borne illness outbreak, authorities concerned have issued new rules last week. As per them, food manufacturers are required to be more alert and ensure their operations are clean. The rules that faced delay have been rolled out under a court-order.
As per the new rules, food manufacturers are required to submit food safety plans to the government. The plans should unveil that the manufacturers are keeping the operations cleans. The rules will come into effect by the end of this year.
Once the rules come into effect then food manufacturers will be required to have detailed plans on how they deal with food, at what temperature they store food, how to process it and how they keep their facilities clean.
Main aim of coming up with new laws is to have prevention system. Officials said that majority of farmers and food manufacturers maintain good safety practices and the laws will ensure that all follow safety practices.
Michael Taylor, the FDA's deputy commissioner for foods, said about the rules will, “create a level playing field. The food safety problems we face have one thing in common -- they are largely preventable”.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate 48 million people in America fall sick due to foodborne disease and around 3,000 people die. The rule is one of the seven being issued by the FDA to improve food safety.
