New Details on Pluto by New Horizons Spark Argument between ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Star Trek’ Fans

The American space agency NASA's New Horizons spacecraft's recent fly by with Pluto has left world surprised. But the latest data on the dwarf planet has unintentionally sparked a heated argument between the 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek' Fans.

Now the new argument has started after NASA's New Horizons Pluto Mission created an immediate need for naming the craters of its largest moon known as Charon.

The International Astronomical Union's open public category for naming the craters included, "Destinations and milestones of fictional space and other exploration; fictional and mythological vessels of space and other exploration; and fictional and mythological voyagers, travellers and explorers".

The names on the top of the list were booked by sci-fi shows and books. These names included persons and books from Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings, and even Firefly.

So far some of the craters have already been named after some famous personalities like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Ripley, Kirk, Uhura, Spock, and Sulu and many more are suggested to name the new craters.

It has been said the American space agency will continue to explore the dwarf planet, its five moons and other celestial bodies that lie in the faraway Kuiper Belt beyond Neptune's orbit. These finds will help to enlighten scientists and researchers with relevant information and images about the outer space.

NASA's New Horizons is presently continuing on its mission and will hopefully continue to transmit more significant information and images.

New Horizons was launched on January 19, 2006 from Cape Canaveral aboard Atlas V 551. The cost of the mission is approximately $700 million over 15 years from 2001-2016.
