NASA unveils its plans to explore sea on Titan

The US space agency NASA announced that it has planned to explore the depths of the sea on one of Saturn's moons, Titan.

The agency is aiming to explore the sea called Kraken Mare, which is the largest sea on the space rock. The agency has released an animated 3D video to reveal their plans.

Saturn contains 61 gigantic moons orbiting the gas giant. However, Titan possesses an interesting atmosphere compared to the others. Most of the area on Titan is covered in lakes of methane and ethane in liquid form.

This information was sent by Cassini spacecraft, which has been studying Titan's atmosphere since 2004. Cassini has been in orbit around Saturn for almost half of its annual journey around the sun. The spacecraft has made several discoveries so far and more are yet to come.

Recently, Cassini sent two images of the icy, cratered moon Rhea, which is the second largest natural satellite of Saturn. Rhea spans some 950 miles across, which is less than a third of Titan's diameter.

The HD, hyper color composite images of the mysterious moon were taken on February 9 by Cassini spacecraft with its narrow angle camera and a few fillers from its wide angle camera.

The first image was taken from a distance of 51,200 miles to 46,000 miles while the other image on the right was captured at a somewhat closer distance of 36,000 miles to 32,100 miles during a close flyby. The complete picture was produced by Heike Rosenberg and Tilmann Denk at Freie Universität in Berlin.

Cassini will exhaust its last fuel reserves in the next two and a half years. Before this final dive, it will explore Saturn's moons and conduct a few more flybys of Titan, Dione and Enceladus.
