NASA Scientists Still Working To Make ‘Wrap Drive’ a Reality
The American space agency in March said the concept of ‘wrap drive’ was impossible, but some sources revealed that the agency has not stopped its efforts to accomplish the challenge.
NASA is conducting tests that could someday or the other will allow for faster-than-the-speed-of-light travel.
According to NASASpaceFlight.com, scientists at NASA’s Johnson Space Center tested an electromagnetic propulsion drive (EM) in a vacuum.
It is said that the agency built EM using technology that shouldn't be possible in current understanding of physics.
The technology behind EM drives has also been demonstrated before, but its results have been disputed by some of the scientists.
Although the technology has been discussed in detail on the forum, it still needs to undergo any peer review, and also the recent NASA results have not been disclosed so far.
In March, Nancy Smith Kilkenny with SGT Inc., an engineering firm with contracts for federal agencies, wrote on NASA’s website that ‘wrap drive’ is presently at a stage of speculation.
She wrote that the several scientists have concluded that ‘wrap drive’ is completely impossible, especially when considering Einstein’s ‘Theory of Relativity’.
There are surely some believable concepts in scientific literature, but it would be quite early to know if they are viable of this situation.
She also told that NASA was working on ion propulsion for deep space missions, which she stated as the ‘fastest and most efficient till date’.
“There are many ‘absurd’ theories that have become reality over the years of scientific research. But for the near future, warp drive remains a dream”, Kilkenny said.
NASASpaceFlight.com noted that Paul March a NASA engineer working in the Eagleworks Lab, wrote in February 2015, that the lab was building upon a paper published last year.
The paper presented an overview of the wrap filed interferometer test bed being implemented at NASA’s Advanced Propulsion Physics Laboratory.
