NASA looking forward to convert poop into food

According to reports, $200,000 has been granted to NASA for a project, which will change human poop into man-made food. Reports say the agency has received $1.6 million in grants for a period of three years.

The agency affirmed in a press release, "Technology drives exploration, and investments in these technologies and technologists is essential to ensure NASA and the nation have the capabilities necessary to meet the challenges we will face as we journey to Mars". It added that the faculty selected in addition to their colleagues assist in assuring a robust university research community committed to advanced space technology development.

The project has been named as Synthetic Biliogy for Recycling Human Waste into Food, Nutraceuticls, and Materials: Closing the Loop for Long-Term Space Travel. Mark Blenner of Clemson University in South Carolina is operating the project.

Steve Jurczyk, associate administrator for NASA's Space Technology Mission Directorate said that the early career researchers will help come up with fuel for innovation engine of NASA. The space agency has depended on commercial carriers such as Orbital Sciences and SpaceX in order to explore space. These commercial carriers also helped deliver supply to carry out work at the International Space Station.

Reports say over the last few years, there is a considerable improvement in space food. And use of human-waste as food will be an innovation in place of something that seems morbid. So far, space veggies are there when it comes to space food for astronauts.
