NASA launches its Official Account on Tumblr

With an aim to expand NASA's reach on social media platforms, the agency has opened an official account on Tumblr. The account is in a weblog-like format, which would display textual content, photographs, movies and other things.

NASA has posted a spectacular image on its account of the dark side of the moon with earth in the background. NASA said that its Tumblr account will provide information, images and videos about the agency's missions on exploration and discovery.

The main account will be having images and videos and the two of the other pages of NASA will be providing information on missions. NASA said that one of the pages will only have updates on Mars Curiosity rover.

Another page will be having information about astronaut Peggy Wilson, who has been training for a six-month mission on the International Space Station (ISS). Not only on Tumblr, has NASA also shared photos of the historic Pluto flyby of New Horizons spacecraft on Instagram.

NASA said that it wants people should know more about space. They hope that this step would help them achieve the same. NASA also uses Twitter to motivate people with new contests about space-related missions.

The agency has often praised social media for releases news and updates about NASA's space projects. Tumblr is a social media platform that allows people to connect and follow other account holders in a micro-blog format.
