NASA brings space camp for youngsters aspiring to be an astronaut
According to reports, those youngsters who are looking forward to become an astronaut, NASA has come up with a ground-breaking space camp and the best candidates may become part of US space missions, together with Mars expedition.
It is expected that over a thousand children will be taking part in it and will assemble at the US Space, Kennedy Space Center in Florida and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The children will gain knowledge by gaining a hands-on experience of launching and making rockets made of PVC pipes and paper tubes. According to NDTV, they will also observe the microgravity simulation, in addition to learning planning and execution of missions in a space shuttle imitation.
As per NASA, this project is named as Summer of Innovation (SOI), where middle schoolchildren will be targeted who are underprivileged, underrepresented and underserved. The SOI motivates children to take part in hands-on activities by recognizing challenges and coming up with solutions to a real space related situations. This activity comes up with many ways of learning about technology, science, engineering, and math or STEM.
According to the US space agency, "Each activity is planned to bring out team-building and problem-solving skills among children". According to them, this way it is possible to make children learn things effectively. And some could also be chosen to become the future astronaut for space missions together with Mars.
This decision has come after the call of President of United States Barack Obama's to come with innovative learning methods for children.
