Nandita Ready With Directorial Debut ‘Firaaq’
Ace Bollywood beauty Nandita Das has finished her first directorial venture ‘Firaaq,’ which stars top-notch actors including Naseerudin Shah, Tisca Chopra, Paresh Rawal, Snajay Suri and Deepti Naval.
About her directing experience, Nandita said that it was the most consuming and yet a nerve-racking time of my life.
Produced by Percept Picture Company (PPC), Firaaq is about a Hindu Dalit rural family who live on the Indo-Pak border. Ramchand, a seven-year-old boy, and his father accidentally cross the border and are then taken to the Kutch jail.
The movie is slated to release in October 2008.
She said, “Yes, I was exhausted while making the film. But if I come by a good subject, I will definitely direct another film and that can be any day, provided somebody come forward to produce it.”
“The members of my unit were not only experts in their own fields, but they were all very nice human beings and that made by journey of making 'Firaaq' less burdensome,” she added.
Nandita, who is not featuring in her directorial debut, said that she made the movie the way she desired to do it and that Shailendra Singh, the joint managing director of PPC, was not permitted to get in the way.
“I made the film the way I had visualised it and did not let Shailendra to interfere in my job,” she said.
She doesn’t wish to be brand marked as a serious ‘film producer’.
She said, “The films are either good or bad. You can't call one a serious film and the other a non-serious one. But as a director, I would certainly want to convey a message through my films. I can't possibly involve myself in an inane film.”
The message she wishes to communicate through her movie is that violence is not the solution to a social crisis. It only leaves a trail of destruction, socially as well as psychologically.
