My Name is Khan makes record $1.86 million in America
Shah Rukh Khan Starrer movie My Name Is Khan has made a new record. The movie attained about $1.86 million at the box office in the North America in its very first weekend. The movie also has broken all the previous earning records by a Hindi movie in North America.
The trend also seems to be on rise as Monday's Presidents' Day holiday in the US will lead to a four-day debut of more than $2 million.
My Name Is Khan released on 12 of February 2010 in North America. On the opening day, this movie made $444,000 and this figure rose 65 percent to $734,000 on the next day of its release. The movie directed by Karan Johar bagged $15,500 from total 120 theaters across the United States and Canada in the weekend. My Name Is Khan is also the movie which has generated highest per-theatre average of any film in the Top 20 over the weekend. The previous record was also held by Shah Rukh Khan's movie Om Shanti Om which made the business of $1.76 million in 2007.
The movie is teaching lessons about Islam and tolerance. The Los Angeles Times called it "a sweeping epic in the melodramatic Bollywood manner yet emerges as a potent, engaging and timely entertainment. "MNIK "is a potent, energetic heart-tugger and Khan and Kajol, major Bollywood stars, are highly appealing and equal to the demand of their emotion-charged roles."
