Milk brands have same amount of nutrients despite claims of added nutrients
Recent study by consumer group Choice revealed that there is not much difference in the amounts of nutrients in milk of various brands.
Market is full of brands offering milk having added calcium, vitamin D, A2 proteins, or omega-3 fatty acids along with other nutrients. These brands cost higher than other milk brands.
Research team studied 100 leading milk brands, including organics. Data analysis revealed that there was a negligible difference in amount of nutrients in milk brands marketing milk with low-saturated fats
Research team added that to avail benefit of the omega-3 fats, a person has to drink two litres which would give equal benefit as eating a 50g portion of salmon.
Research team found that only real difference was in the fat content of the milk. Study showed that full-cream milk has at least 3.2 percent fat, light milk contains less than 1.5 per cent and skim has less than 0.1 per cent fat.
Choice concluded: "Despite the profusion of brands and the plethora of claims, the only really meaningful choice when buying milk is between full-cream, low-fat and skim."
