Mark Zuckerberg shares his image while running in front of iconic Tiananmen Square in Beijing

On Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, shared a photo of himself running in front of Beijing’s iconic Tiananmen Square. Zuckerberg is in China for a business event.

Facebook CEO wrote that it’s superb to revisit Beijing. He started his visit with a run across the Tiananmen Square, crossing by the Forbidden City, to the Temple of Heaven. Previously in 2016, Zuckerberg promised to run 365 miles this year, and invited people to join him.

However, the Chinese Twitter-like platform Weibo was full of comments by netizens, mainly highlighting concerns regarding air pollution in Beijing and the effort by Zuckerberg to bring Facebook into China. Facebook has been banned in China due to its strict controls and censorship. Facebook has been trying hard to work out a solution with Chinese authorities.

While people in big cities in China use masks while roaming outdoors due to high pollution levels, Zuckerberg was running without a mask. The image has started a debate online about Facebook’s efforts to get approval of Chinese authorities. It has also led to debate on pollution in China.

One of the users wrote that there is so much pollution, but people don’t care about their health until they can make money. Another user ‘Prajna’ wrote that at times she feels like she is committing suicide when she hasn’t worn her mask while outdoors.

There are a lot of Chinese people, who think that the walk and all is just a publicity stunt for Facebook, however, they are highly doubtful that it would work for Zuckerberg.

User ‘vaporware2013’ said that the CEO is doing everything he can to make the government lift Facebook ban. The user wonders whether Zuckerberg can clear Communist Party's final submission test or not.

A user with name ‘TangYijia’ gave an advice to the CEO, writing, “It's useless however hard you run. The government will not let you in. Go home and carry on with your life, Zuckerberg”.

Besides, there were also netizens seeking help of Zuckerberg. They asked the CEO about how they can bypass the Great Firewall. The Great Firewall is Chinese government-operated surveillance program to censor Internet content within China.
