Maoists shutdown call hits normal life in Jharkhand
Ranchi, Mar 22 : People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) shutdown call given on Sunday to protest the killing of a rebel commander and some other members of a group during an encounter with the Police affected normal life in Jharkhand.
This Maoist outfit has called for a daylong shutdown.
The passengers who were caught in the shutdown situation said they faced lot of problems due to such recurring calls for shutdown.
"I was not aware of the shutdown and I am stranded here. I do not know how will I arrange my rest of the journey. We faced a lot of problems due to this recurring shutdowns," said Mukesh Kumar, a passenger.
Some passengers said they were scared of travelling fearing Maoist retribution.
"We are little scared to travel, what if the trains start plying and the Maoists blow off the track. We have children along with us," said Shukra, another passenger.
Maoist rebels regularly kill policemen and attack government establishments in the state.
The Maoists say they are fighting for the rights of poor peasants and landless labourers, routinely calling strikes, attacking government property and targeting local politicians. (ANI)
